Fat Dissolving
If you haven’t heard of it already, intralipotherapy (Fat Dissolving) is a popular and relatively new treatment that’s used to target those pesky pockets of fat that gather on your stomach, thighs, upper arms, buttocks and back – and even your face.
The injection ‘dissolves’ and eliminates fat cells in a safe and effective way, making it perfect for dealing with stubborn fat that simply won’t budge, no matter how much you exercise.
How does the treatment work?
The main ingredient is a fat dissolving substance called sodium deoxycholate, which is found naturally in the body. This is injected into the treatment area using a needle which, over time, destroys the fat cells in this area. These are then removed from the body by its own lymphatic system – a network of tissues and organs that rid the body of unwanted toxins and waste. And just like that, the fat is gone!
Is this the treatment for you?
If you suffer from low body confidence as a result of stubborn fat that’s near impossible to remove through exercise or weight loss, this treatment is the answer to your prayers.
However, it’s important to bear in mind that one thing fat dissolving injections are not is a weight loss treatment. The injections should only be used on people who are a healthy size or carrying a little extra weight, and are most effective on small pockets of fat stored on the hips, thighs, knees, ankles, upper arms, stomach and chin.
What results can you expect?
Sodium deoxycholate works its magic at a slow, leisurely pace – so the results won’t be instant. In fact, it usually takes several weeks for changes to become fully visible, which makes it all the more exciting when you start to notice the fat shrinking away.
And the best bit? The results are permanent (assuming you don’t gain weight), as once the unwanted fat has been processed through your lymphatic system, it’s gone.
How many sessions will you need?
For the best results, at Blush Aesthetics we recommend a course of at least 3-4 sessions, held six weeks apart. This is dependent on the amount of fat you want to remove, and the part of your body you’re targeting.
What about any side effects?
As with any cosmetic treatment, there are a few side effects to be aware of, namely swelling. Intralipotherapy eliminates fat by causing an inflammatory reaction in the fat cells, which will naturally result in redness, swelling or bruising immediately after your appointment. It’s completely normal for skin to stay swollen for 3-5 days after the injection, and may even feel tender as late as eight weeks post-treatment.
To speed up recovery, we’d recommend avoiding hot showers or baths for 24 hours, refraining from using self-tan products, skin creams and exfoliants for at least a week, and taking a break from exercise for 10 days after your treatment.

Profhilo is an injectable skin bio-remodelling treatment that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin and helps to significantly improve tissue quality. Patients who undergo a Profhilo treatment can expect to see increased firmness and improved elasticity of the skin in the treatment area, with the effects lasting up to 6 months.
Profhilo contains stabilised Hyaluronic Acid – a naturally occurring substance that helps the skin to retain moisture more effectively. It is also used for effective skin remodelling and treating skin laxity, not just for ‘filling’ lines and wrinkles.
Profhilo can help to improve skin tone, texture, hydration and overall radiance. It can help to increase firmness and elasticity and promote healthier and softer looking, and feeling, skin. Any body area can be treated with Profhilo – from the crepey skin on your knees to your upper arms, décolletage and face.
How does this treatment work?
Profhilo is an injectable treatment that specifically targets a 2cm radius of the injection site, with the product being gradually absorbed into this specific area. As a result, if the face is being treated, there are just 5 injection points on each side of the face to ensure optimal distribution and absorption of the slow release Hyaluronic Acid formula.
Once the absorption process has started, Profhilo stimulates the production of 4 different types of collagen and elastin. It is this stimulation that results in significant improvement of tissue quality and skin tone, as well as improved overall texture, hydration and radiance. Profhilo also helps to increase the firmness and elasticity of the skin in the treatment area.
Profhilo diffuses within the tissue after the injection and improved hydration and texture can start to be seen in 3-5 days, though older patients may not see tightening of the skin until after the second treatment.
Profhilo is recommended as a course of 2 treatments (spaced 4-6 weeks apart), and optimal results can be seen 2 months after the second treatment has been administered, with the positive effects of the treatment lasting up to 6 months
The downtime following a Profhilo treatment is minimal, and you should be able to return to your normal ‘light’ daily activities immediately after your procedure. However, we recommend that you avoid physical strain and sports on the first day after the treatment, and don’t have a sauna or steamy bath for the first few days. Taking steps to avoid the sun and UV light is also highly recommended for the first few days’ post-treatment.
